And now, The Beatles

Wednesday, February 13, 2008

We recently got to spend an extraordinary week at Abbey Road Studios in Room Two with Giles Martin. Room Two is where The Beatles recorded their most famous hits and changed the face of popular music. Giles is the Grammy Award-winning co-producer, along with his father Sir George Martin, of The Beatles LOVE CD and the music soundscape for the Cirque du Soleil show of the same name.

Giles spent three years sorting through the original master tapes of the Beatles recordings in order to create the LOVE CD. In the process, he came to know every note, riff and musical nuance that comprise a big chunk of The Beatles catalog. In fact, Paul McCartney told Giles that no one on the planet was more acquainted with the Beatles tracks than Giles. Working along side his father, Giles came to understand the stories behind the songs and the innovative recording techniques that contributed to the band's signature sound. Over the course of our work together Giles shared this deep knowledge of the music and also some remarkable stories about the band, the personalities and this time we got it all on high-def tape.

And now we get to share it with you.

The 14 new Beatles songs in our catalog are the first wave - look for another nine in the next couple of weeks and then some more shortly thereafter. Have you been wondering how to frame up the opening chord for "Hard Days Night?" What about the killer riff that defines "Day Tripper?" Wonder no more. We have the voicings, the riffs and the stories behind the songs waiting for you.

It's been very exciting to work on this project - certainly one of the high points of my 25+ years in the music business. And it's our great pleasure to make this available on ivideosongs.com. Keep the feedback coming and tell us about your experience learning to play "Revolution," "I Feel Fine," "Blackbird" and other great Beatles songs.
