Shepard's Pie

Monday, March 17, 2008

Happy St. Patty's Day to all. One of the many things I love about music is the beauty and diversity we have to choose from. Around our offices you will hear someone walking the halls singing a line from a Fall Out Boy song and 5 minutes later the same person is humming the melody to a Poco song. Listening to and playing songs that cross over genres and the decades is part of the joy of music. That is why we keep mixing it up for you as we add new titles.

This week we have cooked up a nice Shepard's Pie of goodies for you to feast on. New titles featuring our instructors include:

Sugar We're Going Down - Fall Out Boy
Drive - Incubus
Never Let You Go - Third Eye Blind
Round Here - Counting Crows
Only Wanna Be With You - Hootie & The Blowfish
Carry On - Kansas
Dust In The Wind - Kansas
My Happy Ending - Avril Lavigne

We are also adding some amazing artist titles including Jim Messina's country rock classic from his Poco days "You Better Think Twice". As is always the case with our artist videos, the nuggets on how to play the song are beautifully presented by Jim along with his interviews that bring to life the very human side behind the art of this great song.

Two new titles from Jon Foreman of Switchfoot are also in this new release. They include acoustic versions of "Meant To Live" and "Twenty-Four". These songs were shot at the studio near San Diego where many of Switchfoot's songs have been recorded. Jon does a wonderful job of sharing the intricate voicings and tunings of these hits.

Finally, we have three monsters in DADGAD tuning from the great Pierre Bensusan. They include "L'Alchimiste", "Silent Passenger" and "So Long Michael" which is Pierre's tribute to the legendary Michael Hedges.

Stay tuned. Much more to come. Meanwhile, hop on the blog and let us hear from you. We really want to know what songs and artists you are interested in seeing in the iVideosongs catalogue.

More Beatles

Sunday, March 2, 2008

A couple of weeks ago we introduced a baker's dozen (plus) of Beatles songs to the iVideosongs catalog, including classics such as I Feel Fine, Revolution and Yesterday. The Beatles faithful, including each of us, have been ecstatic.

We have been so blessed to work with the incomparable Giles Martin, the Grammy Award-winning co-producer of The Beatles LOVE CD and the music for the LOVE Cirque du Soleil show. In our Abbey Road sessions with Giles, he shared some amazing insight into the unique way the Beatles wrote and recorded their songs as well as personal stories that his father Sir George Martin and the Beatles have shared with him. Now we get to share all of this with you.

Each of the 14 Beatles titles we have previously released includes the magic of Giles Martin from Abbey Road. With a little help from our friend Giles, we are expanding our Beatles offering with the addition of eight more Beatles classics including Get Back, Help From My Friends and Paperback Writer. And for those of you, who like me, have always wondered about exactly how many holes it takes to fill the Albert Hall, we couldn't be more excited to offer you the masterpiece, A Day In The Life.

You know, sometimes the extraordinary musicality of The Beatles gets somewhat eclipsed by the discussion about their enormous cultural and social impact. But, what is undeniable is that this band rocked. When you dig deep into the song structures and kick butt musicianship, it's just incredible.

To my knowledge, iVideosongs is the first site on the planet to offer complete, accurate and authorized video instruction downloads of Beatles songs. Dig in and as they were once known to say, "dig it, dig it."
