In this tutorial, piano legend Chuck Leavell recounts his experiences playing with many noteworthy artists, discusses his influences in the Boogie Woogie style of playing, and demonstrates variations on a Boogie Woogie pattern. Octaves are used to begin with a standard left hand pattern that repeats as chords are added in the right hand. For an additional challenge, Chuck suggests variations that add chords to the left hand and thirds to the right hand. Intermediate-level players will glean many useful improvisational concepts from this popular style.
